Question

How do you increase the range of a voltmeter?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Voltmeters operate on the premise that torque is generated by the current induced by voltage measurement. The torque deflects the voltmeter's pointer, which is proportional to the potential difference between volts.
  2. Individual resistors in a series resistor network combine together to generate the series combination's equivalent resistance (RT). A series circuit's resistors can be swapped without altering the total resistance, current, or power to each resistor or the circuit.

Therefore,

An appropriate high multiplier resistance must be connected in series with a voltmeter in order to enhance its range.

  1. By raising the resistance, the voltmeter's range can be expanded.
  2. A resistor can be connected in series with the voltmeter to accomplish this.

Hence, this is the way to increase the voltage of a voltmeter.
