Question

How do you know if it is a redox reaction?

Open in App
Solution

The redox reaction can be explained as follows:

  1. In a chemical reaction (oxidation reaction and reduction reaction) whether there is a change in the oxidation number then it is called a redox reaction.
  2. In an oxidation reaction, the element loses electrons or increases in oxidation number. In a reduction reaction, the element gains electrons or decreases in oxidation number.
  3. The below equation clearly explains the redox reaction:

Zn(s)+Cu+2(aq)Zn+2(aq)+Cu(s)

Therefore, the above points clearly explains the redox reaction.
