Question

How do you measure mass?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The mass (m) of an object is the quantity of matter contained in it.
  2. We can measure the mass of an object using the expression for finding the weight.
  3. The weight (W) of an object is given by the expression W = mg, where m is the mass and g is the acceleration due to gravity.
  4. From the above expression, we get W=mgm=Wg
  5. Hence, we can conclude that the mass (m) of an object can be calculated by dividing the weight (W) of the object by the acceleration due to gravity (g).
