How do you read codons?

Codon:

1. Codon is a trinucleotide sequence present on the mRNA template.
2. It codes for a specific amino acid at the time of translation.
3. The four nucleotides are represented by the letter A, U, G and C.
4. Each sequence of 3 nucleotides is unique for each amino acid.

Reading codons:

1. Codons are read from 5’ to 3’.
2. Codons are read in succession and they do not overlap each other.
3. They specify the order of amino acids in a protein.
4. The first, second, and third letters in a codon represent the first, second and third bases constituting the amino acid.
