Open in App
Solution

Rewrite cos3θ in terms of cosθ:

cos3θ can also be written as,

cos3θ=cos2θ+θ

=cos2θcosθ-sin2θsinθ [cosa+b=cosacosb-sinasinb]

=2cos2θ-1cosθ-2cosθsinθsinθ [cos2a=2cos2a-1;sin2a=2cosasina]

=2cos3θ-cosθ-2sin2θcosθ

=2cos3θ-cosθ-21-cos2θcosθ [sin2a+cos2a=1]

=2cos3θ-cosθ-2cosθ+2cos3θ

=4cos3θ-3cosθ

Hence, cos3θ can be written in terms of cosθ as 4cos3θ-3cosθ.
