Silicosis:

Silicosis is a lung disease caused by breathing in fine particles of crystalline silica. It is a long-term disease.

Tests for silicosis:

If someone shows any symptoms of silicosis such as a persistent cough or shortness of breath, they are advised to undergo the following tests to confirm.

1. Bronchoscopy: In this case, a long thin tube with a tiny camera is allowed to pass on the end into the lungs to check for damages.
2. Chest X-ray or CT scan: Abnormalities in the structure of the lungs are detected by it.
3. Surgical lung biopsy: A sample of lung tissue is taken through a needle and checked under a microscope for signs of silicosis.
4. Sputum test: Coughed-up mucus is collected and evaluated to diagnose silicosis.
