People in the village are dependent on land to earn their livelihood. There may arise disputes related to land. Such disputes are settled by the panchayat with the help of a land record officer known as Patwari. The panchayat is helped by the Patwari in their work in the following ways:
1. The Patwari is responsible for inspecting the crops grown, maintaining land records and keeping a work book, which is updated on a daily basis. He provides this information to the panchayat. Then, the panchayat fixes the taxes on land based on these records.
2. The Patwari reports all the serious calamities affecting the land or the crop to the panchayat. Then, the panchayat takes necessary measures.
3. The Patwari helps the panchayat by collecting land revenue from the farmers.
So, we can state that the Patwari is the main link between the village and the government. This relation helps in the implementation of government schemes based on the needs of the village.
