Question

How do you write a half-reaction In Electrochemistry?

Open in App
Solution

Electrochemistry is the study of the generation of electricity on the energy released from a spontaneous chemical reaction and the use of electric energy to provide passage to a non-spontaneous chemical reaction. The cell reaction in electrochemistry can be written as:

2Fe+3+Sn+22Fe+2+Sn+4

The half cell for each cell can be written as:

Fe+3+e-Fe+2 Iron is the oxidizing agent

Sn+2Sn+4+2e- Tin is the reducing agent

Hence, from the above cell reaction, half cell reaction can be visualized in Electrochemistry.
