Question

How do you write a Qualitative Analysis?

Open in App
Solution

There are two types of analysis for testing an ion, Qualitative analysis (identity of the ion) and Quantitative analysis (amount of the ion). The Qualitative analysis can be summarized as:

  1. Quantitative analysis uses complex mathematical calculation and statistical modelling for detecting the amount of ions by reflecting a numerical value.
  2. While Qualitative analysis focuses on the identity and presence of the ions irrespective of their amount.
  3. Below is the detailed diagram for detecting chemical compounds in household powders which include compounds like Table salt(NaCl), baking soda (NaHCO3), Plaster of Paris(CaSO4), Sucrose, Chalk(CaCO3), Washing soda(Na2CO3), Cornstarch, Borax(Na2B4O7):
  4. Qualitative analysis assesses the importance and potential of an ion in the compound.

Therefore, the above points and detailed diagram explains the theory and procedure of Qualitative analysis.
