Solution

Finding the equation of a line passing through two points:

Given points are (2,1),(4,5)

The formula for a line passing through given two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is

y-y1=y2-y1x2-x1(x-x1)

Put x1=2, y1=1, x2=4 and y2=5

y-1=5-14-2(x-2)

y-1=42(x-2)

y-1=2(x-2)

y-1=2x-4

2x-y=3

Hence, the equation of a line in standard form is 2x-y=3.
