How does a Cork acts as a protective tissue?
The outer protective layer or bark of a tree is known as the cork. It is made up of dead cells. It protects the plant against mechanical injury, extreme temperature, etc. It also prevents the loss of water by evaporation.
They also have a chemical called suberin in their walls that makes them impermeable to gases and water .Thus cork protects the underlying tissues from excessive ater loss adverse external environments and mechanical injuries.
