Question

How does a fuse help to prevent damage in case current exceeds the permissible value?

Open in App
Solution

The electric fuse is an important component of all domestic circuits. Overloading can occur when the live and the neutral wire come into direct contact. In such a situation, the current in the circuit abruptly increases. The use of an electric fuse prevents the electric circuit and appliance from a possible damage by stopping the flow of high electric current. When current exceeds the permissible value, the heating effect of current causes the fuse to melt, hence disconnecting the circuit.
