Question

How does a virus deviate from the central dogma?

Open in App
Solution

The central dogma:

  1. Central dogma is the process where the genetic information is transferred from DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) to RNA (ribonucleic acid) and then to proteins in biological cells.
  2. Retroviruses are organisms that have their genetic material in the form of RNA.
  3. They are primitive organisms.
  4. Upon entering into the host cells they convert their RNA into DNA by the enzyme reverse transcriptase enzyme.
  5. The converted viral DNA moves to the host cell genome to get integrated inside it.
  6. The integrated viral DNA is again further transcribed to RNA and to proteins to synthesize more viral molecules.
  7. Hence, this is how a virus tends to deviate from the central dogma.
