Homologous Chromosomes:

  1. Homologous chromosomes are made up of chromosome pairs that have the same centromere position, corresponding loci, and are roughly the same length.
  2. One chromosome is inherited from the mother whereas the other is from the father.
  3. The fusion of an egg and sperm results in the formation of a pair of homologous chromosomes.
  4. Through meiosis, the number of chromosomes in gametes is reduced by half.
