Asexual reproduction in liverwort:

  1. Liverworts belong to the plant division Marchantiophyta.
  2. They are non-vascular (no xylem and phloem for transportation of water and food) plants.
  3. They have a dominant gametophyte stage (haploid stage).
  4. Asexual reproduction in liverworts occurs via the fragmentation process of thalli.
  5. Fragmentation involves the process of growth of a new organism from a fragment of the parent body.
  6. Liverworts also reproduce via gemmae.
  7. Gemmae are mass of cells, that form a bud, this bud tissue dissociates from the plant and develops into a new organism.
