Biological diversity broadly describes the evolution of life from genes to ecosystems, including their existences, genetic variations, environments, populations, and the ecosystems in which they exist, as well as other evolutionary developments that keep the system functioning, changing, and adapting.

Economic importance of biodiversity:

  1. Biodiversity is an important resource for all humans in their daily lives.
  2. It is conceived of as a reservoir of resources to be tapped for the production of food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
  3. Some of the important economic commodities derived by man from biodiversity are Food crops, Livestock, Forests, Fish, Medicinal resources.
  4. Crop diversity, also known as agrobiodiversity, is an essential component of biodiversity.
  5. This concept of biological resources is to blame for the decline in biodiversity.
