Question

How does CO2 cause global warming?

Open in App
Solution

Global warming:

Global warming is defined as a consistent increase in the earth's average temperature, as evidenced by rising global surface temperatures caused or influenced by continuous emissions of greenhouse gases.

Greenhouse effect:

  1. Because of the greenhouse effect, environmental concerns have accelerated the rate of global warming.
  2. The absorption of solar energy has caused a significant shift in the earth's normal temperature.
  3. The greenhouse gases in the atmosphere absorb this heat energy, interfering with heat regulation throughout the atmosphere.
  4. As a result, temperatures rise, contributing to global warming.
  5. Methane, carbon dioxide, ozone, chlorofluorocarbons, and other greenhouse gases are examples.

Effect of CO2 on global warming:

  1. The use of carbon-containing fossil fuels is a major contributor. Carbon dioxide is formed when carbon released into the atmosphere reacts with oxygen.
  2. Carbon dioxide stored in trees is released in large quantities, increasing the risk of global warming.
  3. Landfills containing millions of non-recyclable materials are openly burned. This also contributes to the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
