These ports are inevitable for the economic growth of the nation. They are the centres of national and international trade. Many parts of the Indian coastal plains have rich, fertile soil on which, apart from rice, a large variety of crops are grown. Some areas along the coastal plain have deposits of mineral oil. hence the coastal plains play a very important role in the economic development of India.
