Question

How does Coriolis force affect the flow of the wind?

Open in App
Solution

Winds blow from regions of high pressure towards areas of low pressure, the rotation of the earth causes a change in the direction of flow. The deviation of the wind movement is called Coriolis effect. Due to this effect, the winds in the northern hemisphere get deflected towards it's right and the movement becomes clockwise. In the Southern Hemisphere, the deflection is to the left and winds move anti-clockwise.
