How does creation of variations in a species help in better survival?

Solution

Variations:

Variations are the differences in the traits or the characteristics among the members of the same species.

Advantages of variations:

  • The hereditary variations are those variations that are passed onto the progeny from their parents.
  • The variations that are fit for the environment are more selected by the nature. Such type of variations allow the organisms to survive in different environmental conditions.

Example of variations:

  • At first, only a small amount of insecticide looks enough for killing an insect species.
  • Some of the insects possess genes that form enzymes capable of breaking the insecticide, hence these insects survive.
  • The insects having the enzymes start reproducing quickly and spreads throughout the population.
  • The insects lacking such enzymes will die.
