Question

How does cytokinesis differ in a plant and animal cell?

Open in App
Solution

Cytokinesis in a animal cell Cytokinesis in an plant cell
Cytokinesis occurs by the formation of a furrow in the middle of the plasma membrane. Cytokinesis does not occur by furrow formation.
This furrow deepens towards the interior of the cell until the cytoplasm is split into two similar daughter cells. A new cell wall is laid down along the equatorial region of the spindle network starting from the centre. Thus, two distinct daughter cells are cut off.
