Cytokinesis in plants occurs by the formation of cell plate. The cell plate start its formation from the centre and proceeds towards the lateral walls. Hence, the is better described as centrifugal formation of cell plate.
In animals, the process of cytokinesis takes place by cleavage furrow. The cleavage furrow start deepening from the the periphery towards the centre and finally meet at the centre. Hence, it is described as centripetal furrow formation.
