Democracy produces an accountable government because the people have the right to choose their own leaders through the elections.

• The elected leaders from the government participate in the decision making progress on behalf of the people. If these representatives do not work in an effective manner the people might not to elect them again in the next elections. In this way, elected representatives are held accountable for the decisions.
• The leaders in a democratic government are elected by the people and have a responsibility towards them. These leaders promote the acceptance of public opinion and take care of their expectations.
• A democratic government is a legitimate government because elections are held at regular intervals.
• The universal adult franchise allows the people to elect their leaders after every 5 years. The party which has the maximum votes forms the government. If they do not perform according to the expectations of the people, they might lose the next elections.
