Diffusion is referred to as the means of transport through the free movement of molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration.
Diffusion in plants:
In plants, diffusion is the main pathway for the uptake and transportation of substances. Diffusion helps in the uptake of several nutrients, water, and ions for the growth and survival of plants.
Diffusion occurs when plant roots are in contact with the soil.
The concentration of nutrients and other substances is higher in the soil and their transportation occurs from a higher concentration (soil) to a lower concentration (plant roots).
The molecules diffuse from the soil into the roots and these substances are then transported to leaves and other plant parts where it is utilized for their growth.
