  1. DNA polymerase is an enzyme that takes part in the replication of DNA.
  2. There are different kinds of polymerases involved in DNA replication.
  3. It adds complementary nucleotides at the 3’ OH group of the growing strand of DNA.
  4. Thus, it catalyzes the replication of DNA from the 5’ to 3’ direction.
  5. It also has a 3' to 5' exonuclease activity which is essential for proofreading.
