Question

How does ear maintain balance in humans?

Open in App
Solution

Structure of ear:

  1. The human ear is divided into three sections: the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear.
  2. The eardrum connects the ear canal of the outer ear to the air-filled tympanic chamber of the middle ear.

Functions:

The ear maintains balance in the human body in the following ways:

  1. The semicircular canals and the vestibule of the inner ear work together to keep the body balanced.
  2. Three semicircular canals and the vestibule are found in these two inner ear structures (has the saccule and utricle).
  3. Both static and dynamic balance is maintained by the ear.
  4. Between the semicircular canals and the cochlea is the vestibule (eardrum).
  5. The vestibule is in charge of static equilibrium, whereas the semicircular canals are in charge of dynamic equilibrium.
