Sperm enters through the vaginal passage during sexual intercourse and moves upwards. Egg released from the ovary reaches the oviduct. Sperm encounters egg in the oviduct and fertilisation takes place.Fertilisation only once a month because a simple ovum release by female roughly in the middle of the menstrual cycle which has a span of 4 weeks. Therefore, fertilisation can occur only once in a month.
