how does gas become a state of matter when gas has no volume and matter is the substanc which has both mass and volume

Gases have mass and since the gas particles move , the gases expand and occupy the entire space of the container in which they are kept. therefore they have volume which is equal to that of the container, therefore gases will be a state of matter
