Question

How does hydrogen resemble halogens?

Open in App
Solution

The resemblance of Hydrogen with halogens:

  • Hydrogen has one electron in the valence shell.
  • So, hydrogen can also accept one electron to attain inert gas electronic configuration.
  • Therefore, hydrogen atoms show electronegative nature which resembles the group VIIA of halogens.

The chemical reaction is as follows:

H+e-H+(Hydrideion)Cl+e-Cl-(Chlorideion)
