Incentive spirometer:

  1. It is a medical instrument that is used to measure the volume of inhaled air into the lungs during the process of inspiration.
  2. The volume of the inspired air is measured when the piston present in the incentive spirometer rises during breathing.
  3. Incentive spirometer improves the overall functioning of the lungs which in return increases the amount of air inhaled into the lungs, thus, increasing the oxygen in the body.
  4. This device is made up of plastic and has a size of a notebook. Its mouthpiece has a resemblance to a vacuum tube.
  5. This device is generally used to increase the lung efficiency of the patients having pneumonia, COPD, chest surgery, or fractured ribs.
