Question

How does methane act as a greenhouse gas?

Open in App
Solution

Methane (CH4) is produced as plant matter decomposes and is emitted from landfills, wetlands, and rice fields.

Due to the fact that methane emissions are smaller than Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, each Methane (CH4) molecule has 25 times the global warming potential than a Carbon dioxide (CO2) molecule, making it a substantial greenhouse gas.

Hence, Methane(CH4) act as a greenhouse gas.
