Question

How does molality affect the melting point?

Open in App
Solution

Molality: It is a measure to calculate the number of solute present in 1000g of solvent.

Melting Point: It is the temperature at which solid and liquid both form pure substance and exist in equilibrium with each other.

Effect of the melting point on molality

  • When the melting point increases the molality of the solution decreases.
  • This means due to the increasing melting point the solubility of the solute in the solvent decreases.

As a result, as the melting point rises, the molality of a solution drops.
