Question

How does objects absorb sound?

Open in App
Solution

dear student
When a sound wave strikes one of
the surfaces of a object, some of the sound energy is reflected back into the object and some penetrates the surface. Parts of the sound wave energy are absorbed by conversion to heat energy in the material, while the rest is transmitted through. The level of energy converted to heat energy depends on the sound absorbing properties of the material. in other words acoustic absorption refers to the process by which a material, structure, or object takes in sound energy when sound waves are encountered, as opposed to reflecting the energy. Part of the absorbed energy is transformed into heat and part is transmitted through the absorbing body does it emits sound

hope this helps you.
