How does our immune system work?

Immune system:

1. The immune system is a set of biological processes that protect the organism from diseases.
2. The branch of science that deals with the body's immune system are known as Immunology.

Antibody:

1. Antibody (Ab) is commonly known as immunoglobulin(Ig).
2. These are large, Y-shaped blood proteins that are produced by plasma cells.
3. They bind to foreign particles & invade them.
4. These particles are the foreign bodies that get attacked by antibodies.
5. There are two types of immunity:

Innate immunity:

1. This type of immunity is present by birth in an individual.
2. This is activated immediately when the pathogen attacks.
3. Innate immunity includes several barriers and defence mechanisms that keep foreign particles out of the body.

Acquired immunity:

1. Immunity that our body acquires or gains within a lifetime.
2. Unlike innate immunity, this is not present by birth.
3. The most essential cells that form a part of these cells are responsible for eliminating the pathogen.
4. Apart from the WBC's other organs such as lymphoid organs, tissues, and proteins antibodies are also present.
