How does our skin provide protection to our body against the following?
(b) Excessive loss of heat in severe cold.

Open in App
Solution

  • Excessive loss of heat in severe cold is prohibited by vasoconstriction.
  • When the outside temperature is low, the blood vessels get narrowed and there is a reduced supply of blood to the skin.
  • This results in less formation of sweat (sweat glands produce less sweat).
  • So, there will be less loss of heat due to a lesser amount of vaporisation of sweat.
