Question

How does oxygen changes into carbon dioxide inside our body

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Aerobic respiration is the process of producing cellular energy in the presence of oxygen. In aerobic respiration, glucose breaks down into carbon dioxide and water in the presence of oxygen.

Simplified reaction: C6H12O6 (s) + 6 O2 (g) → 6 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) + heat

So, blood carrying oxygen gets to the body needing energy, where the glucose is burnt in the presence of oxygen to provide energy in the form of heat, decomposing glucose into water and carbon dioxide.

The water is absorbed by our body and the carbon dioxide is released into the air. In this way carbon dioxide released.
