  1. Oxytocin is a peptide hormone synthesized in the hypothalamus and released into the bloodstream by the posterior pituitary gland.
  2. Oxytocin stimulates the contraction of the smooth uterine muscles during childbirth or labor. Along with this, oxytocin also stimulates the flow of milk during lactation.
