Question

How does pH Affect Redox Potential?

Open in App
Solution

Redox Potential: It represents the tendency of a chemical substance to lose or gain electrons. With the help of redox potential, we get to know, whether the substance will undergo oxidation or reduction.

pH affecting redox potential as

Increasing the value of pH will decrease the redox potential. When the concentration of H+ rises, the solution becomes acidic, and the pH rises, lowering the redox potential.

Therefore, as the pH increases, the redox potential will decrease.
