Question

How does pressure in liquid change with depth

Open in App
Solution

The pressure exerted by a liquid increases with the increase in depth below the free surface.

When you swim under water, you can feel the water pressure acting against your eardrums.

The deeper you swim, the greater the pressure.

The cause of pressure is simply the weight of the water (and air) above pushing against you.

If you swim twice as deep, there is twice the weight of water above, and twice the water pressure.
