Ecological diversity refers to the diversity at ecosystem level in terms of variations in the ecosystems (such as deserts, forests, grasslands, wetlands and oceans) within a geographical location.
Factors affecting the diversity It is affected by latitudinal gradients and decreases as we move away from the equator towards the poles. It is influenced by various biotic (organisms) and abiotic (temperature, humidity) factors.
Examples Western Ghats have a greater amphibian species diversity than the Eastern Ghats India with diverse ecosystems found in its mangroves, deserts, rainforests, etc is said to be a highly ecologically diverse nation.
