How does temperature affect the emf of a cell?

Open in App
Solution

The affect of temperature on emf of cell:

  1. According to Nernst equation, E=E°-RT/zFlnQ. This equation shows a relationship between temperature and emf of cell.
  2. The emf of cell decreases with increase in temperature. Because the temperature has negative value in the equation.

Hence, the emf of cell decreases with increase in temperature.
