Question

How does tendency to lose electron vary down the group? Give reason.

Open in App
Solution

Tendency of an element to lose electrons increases when we go down the group. This is because atomic size increases when we go down the group. And force of attraction of nucleus for the valence electrons decreases down the group. This make easier for an element to lose electrons....So tendency to lose the electrons increases.
