Question

How does the blood come out of the capillary and come in contact with the Bowman's capsule so as to form filtrate?

Open in App
Solution

  • Bowman's capsule is also known as a glomerular capsule.
  • Its performs the first step in the filtration of blood to form urine.
  • The process of filtration of the blood in the Bowman's capsule is known as ultrafiltration.
  • The blood enters into the capsule by the afferent ateriole under high pressure.
  • The fluids from blood in the glomerulus are collected in the Bowman's capsule called the glomerulus filterate which is further processed along the nephron to form urine.
  • The filtration barrier is composed of the perforated endothelium of the glomerular capillaries.
  • This barrier permits the passage of water, ions and small molecules from the bloodstream into the Bowman's space.
  • The barrier prevents the passage of large and negatively charged proteins.
