Question

How does the colour code of wires in a cable help in house wiring?

    Open in App
    Solution

In house wiring, the cable consists of three wires namely Live, Neutral and the Earth. Current flows through the live wire. Neutral provides a voltage drop for the current to flow and earth eliminate all the fault currents that might cause shocks. So each of the wires has importance in the wiring. The switch must be connected only to Live wire, metallic part of the device must be connected to earth. If anything goes wrong, it might result in shock. To prevent this and maintaining a uniformity in the wiring, each wire is given a specific colour that we can identify them easily.
