Question

How does the conduction of heat occur?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The process by which heat is transferred from the hotter end to the colder end of an object is known as conduction
  2. Conduction is a process of heat transfer in solids only.
  3. In solids, the molecules are packed closely together.
  4. When one end of a solid is heated, the molecules absorb the heat energy and begin to vibrate rapidly.
  5. These molecules, in turn, cause their neighboring molecules to vibrate.
  6. This process is continued along the solid object(say iron rod) and heat is transferred from the hot part to the cold part of the solid.
