How does the escape velocity of a body vary with the mass of the earth?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,
We know from the theory of gravitation that escape velocity of a body is , ve=2gRearth
Now again we know that the gravitational acceleration of a body on earth is , g=GMearthRearth2
So putting the value of 'g' in the equation of escape velocity ve we get ,
ve=2×GMearthRearth2×Rearth=2GMearthRearthSo , escape velocity veMearthTherefore escape velocity of a body vary with the square root of the mass of the earth .
