How does the female body limit the number of follicles that would prepare for eggs to be released?
Higher oestrogen level stops follicle production
As and when the oestrogen levels rise, the production of the follicle-stimulating hormone is turned off. This careful balance of hormones allows the body to control the number of follicles and in turn, also control the number of eggs that are made ready for release. This control procedure makes sure that the release of such eggs is not wasted or turned into a continuous process.
