How does the increase in temperature affect the solubility of solids and gases?
With rise in temperature, the solubility of a solid increases
For many solids that are dissolved in water or any liquid, the solubility increases with rise in temperature. With increase in kinetic energy, the solvent molecules effectively break apart the solute molecules that are held together by strong intermolecular attractions and thereby solubility is increased.
On the other hand, the higher kinetic energy causes more motion in the gas molecules which break intermolecular bonds and escape from the solution. Therefore as the temperature increases, the solubility of a gas decreases.
