Question

How does the kinetic energy of a moving object change if its momentum is halved

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,
The relation between kinetic energy and momentum of an object is: K = p22m where K is kinetic energy, p, is momentum, and m is mass. So, if the momentum is halved. K'= p'22m=p242m=14 p22m=14KSo when p is halved, the kinetic energy becomes one fourth of its initial.
