Question

How does the medium affect the amplitude of the natural vibrations of a body ?

Open in App
Solution

Free vibrations, which are defined as natural and unforced vibrations of a body, can take place in any medium. But as you know, when a wave passes through a medium, some portion of it is absorbed. If the medium is highly absorbing type, the amplitude of the vibrations will be very low.
